• Wear comfortable footwear - some areas have uneven ground or slippery boardwalks when wet

• Bring sunscreen, bug spray, and a water bottle

• Check the forecast and prepare for changing weather conditions

• Some activities may change day-to-day depending on staffing and weather

Fort Steele is a big place to explore! Most visitors spend 2–4 hours discovering the town, historic buildings, demonstrations, tours, and experiences.

To make sure you have enough time to enjoy your visit, we suggest arriving at least 2–3 hours before closing.

Of course, you're welcome to arrive later — but if you'd like to experience as much of the Fort as possible, give yourself plenty of time to explore!

​Pet Policy

To ensure the safety of our livestock and create a welcoming environment for all visitors, pets are not permitted within Fort Steele Heritage Town.

Service animals are welcome. Please note that comfort or emotional support animals are not considered service animals under this policy. Visitors with service animals are asked to check in at the Visitor Centre upon arrival.

Please do not leave pets unattended in vehicles. We kindly ask that animals be left at home or in the care of a responsible caregiver.

Finding Us

Fort Steele Heritage Town is located just outside of Cranbrook, British Columbia, in the beautiful East Kootenay region.

 

From Cranbrook:

Take Highway 3/95 northeast toward Fort Steele. Follow the signs for Fort Steele Heritage Town — the site is approximately 15 minutes from Cranbrook.

 

From Kimberley:

Head south toward Cranbrook and follow Highway 3/95 toward Fort Steele. The site is approximately 30 minutes from Kimberley.

 

From the Highway:

Watch for Fort Steele Heritage Town signage and follow the access road to the Visitor Centre and parking area.
