
Educational Programs at Fort Steele Heritage Town
Bring your class back in time with our hands-on, curriculum-connected programs designed for Kindergarten through Grade 7. Whether your students are baking on a woodstove, panning for gold, or sleeping in the NWMP barracks, Fort Steele offers a one-of-a-kind way to explore Canadian history.
Programs typically run weekdays from May to June.
Spots are limited and booking is first-come, first-served.

Home Sweet Home
Get a taste of domestic life in the 1890s with hands-on chores like churning butter and baking on a woodstove, or try a full day in a historic schoolhouse.

Rush for Riches
Explore the Wild Horse Gold Rush, a local historical event that shaped life in the Kootenay Valley. During this program, your class will learn about Fisherville, the 1864 Gold Rush, and the riches found along the way.

Town Tours
Take a guided journey through Fort Steele and discover the rich history of the town from its boom in 1864 to its decline in 1905. Led by an engaging educator, students will explore town while learning about the people who lived and worked here, and understand how daily life, settlement, and commerce shaped the community
