Educational Programs at Fort Steele Heritage Town

Bring your class back in time with our hands-on, curriculum-connected programs designed for Kindergarten through Grade 7. Whether your students are baking on a woodstove, panning for gold, or sleeping in the NWMP barracks, Fort Steele offers a one-of-a-kind way to explore Canadian history.

Programs typically run weekdays from May to June.
Spots are limited and booking is first-come, first-served.

1890s Childhood

Get a taste of domestic life in the 1890s with hands-on chores like churning butter and baking on a woodstove, or try a full day in a historic schoolhouse.

  • Grades: K+

  • Duration: 1.5–2 hrs

  • Price Range: $150–$200

  • Capacity: 24–30 students

Farm Life

Help with heritage livestock, tour old farm equipment, and learn how farming worked before electricity. Wagon rides available as an add-on.

  • Grades: K+

  • Duration: 2 hrs

  • Price: $200

  • Capacity: 24 students

  • Wagon Rides: $125–$200 (Add-On)

Early Careers

Discover the Wild Horse Gold Rush or step into the life of a fur trader with interactive, history-rich programming.

  • Grades: 3+

  • Duration: 1.5–2 hrs

  • Price Range: $150–$200

  • Capacity: 24 students

Shop Apprentice

Take on an apprentice role in our leatherwork or tinsmith shops and create your own project to bring home.

  • Grades: 3+

  • Duration: 2 hrs

  • Price: $250

  • Capacity: 12 students

  • Note: Closed-toe shoes and long pants required

Tours

From guided town walks to scavenger hunts and artifact exploration with our curator, these experiences are perfect add-ons or standalone visits.

  • Grades: 2+

  • Duration: 45–60 min

  • Price Range: $5–$100

  • Capacity: Varies

Lived Experience

Spend the night in the NWMP barracks, cook over a woodstove, and immerse your class in a historic overnight adventure. Optional ghost story add-on available.

  • Grades: K+

  • Price: $300/night

  • Capacity: Up to 70 students

  • Check-In/Out: 1 PM–11 AM
