Accessibility at Fort Steele
Fort Steele Heritage Town is a place where history and community come together - and we believe that experience should be welcoming to everyone. As the new stewards of this beloved site, we are committed to fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for all visitors, staff, and volunteers.
We are actively working to ensure that Fort Steele reflects the diversity of the communities we serve. We support accessibility, inclusion, anti-racism, and 2SLGBTQIA+ affirmation in both our programming and our workplace. While many aspects of the site are still being refreshed and renewed, we are laying a foundation for a more accessible and inclusive future.

Physical Accessibility
Fort Steele is a heritage site with more than 60 historic and reconstructed buildings, located on a large property that includes boardwalks, grassy areas, dirt paths, and gravel roads. As a result, the terrain is uneven in many places, and currently, none of our buildings are equipped with elevators.
At this time, we do not have mobility aids such as wheelchairs or walkers available for rent or loan, and transportation assistance within the site is not yet offered.
We understand that these limitations may present challenges, and we are committed to reducing barriers wherever possible as we plan for future upgrades.
Service Animals
Certified service animals are always welcome throughout Fort Steele Heritage Town. Visitors accompanied by a service animal are asked to check in at the Visitor Centre when they arrive.
Looking Ahead
Fort Steele is in a period of transformation. With each new season, we are taking steps to improve access to heritage experiences across the site - and we know there is still a long way to go.
If you have questions, suggestions, or specific needs ahead of your visit, please reach out to us at info@fortsteele.org. We welcome your feedback and look forward to building a more accessible Fort Steele for all.
