The Maintenance Worker assists with the day-to-day maintenance and repair operations of Fort Steele Heritage Town's buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. This role ensures the site remains safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing for visitors and staff, while also preserving its historical integrity.

The Maintenance Worker assists with the day-to-day maintenance and repair operations of Fort Steele Heritage Town's buildings, grounds, and infrastructure. This role ensures the site remains safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing for visitors and staff, while also preserving its historical integrity.


Position Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performing routine maintenance tasks (e.g., plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting).

  • Participating in preventative maintenance programs.

  • Comply with maintenance inventory policies to ensure cost-effective operations.

  • Responding promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies to maintain a safe and functional environment for visitors and staff

  • Maintaining accurate records of maintenance activities and asset conditions.

  • Assisting in the development and maintenance of new site features.

  • Contributing to the preservation and interpretation of the site's historical significance, working in line with the mandate to "preserve, present, and manage for the public benefit the historic settlement of Fort Steele".

  • Collaborating with the site supervisor team and executive management to support overall operational goals and visitor experience.


Knowledge and Experience

  • Two (2) years relevant work experience, preferably in facilities maintenance or construction, preferably with heritage sites.

  • Knowledge of building systems (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire suppression, security) through a combination of education and experience an asset.

  • An understanding of Indigenous relations in this region; additionally, familiarity with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the relevant Calls to Action for Museums is an asset. This knowledge can be through education, lived or worked experience.

  • Knowledge of workplace health and safety regulations and best practices, including WHMIS.

  • Valid driver’s license.


Abilities and Skills

  • Analytical and critical thinking skills to diagnose maintenance issues and develop effective solutions.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with staff, contractors and a team.

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and regulatory documents.

  • Attention to detail and commitment to preserving heritage assets.

  • Time management skills to balance daily maintenance operations.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
